How can I make a living in Puerto Vallarta Mexico?

How can I make a living in Puerto Vallarta Mexico?
I was born in the united states and never lived outside the country but I am planning on moving to Puerto Vallarta Mexico to be with my family and I wanted to see what I could do over there that would pay a decent amount of money. I've heard that if you speak english, you have it made but I just don't know where to start looking. I'm not wanting to get rich or start a business (wouldn't have anough time and energy, need to take care of the in-laws)

You could try your hand at selling time-shares there, but there are already a thousand people doing that. And it's a cutthroat business where other sales people will leap over you to get to the next prospect and make that sale. Or you could sell real estate to retirees. Create a website and attract people to Puerto Vallarta and show properties like the website below does in the lake Chapala area of Jalisco.

Do you have dual citizenship? That will help some. Understand that right now unemployment is very high in Mexico. Getting work permits for non citizens is extremely difficult. A company must state that they were unable to find a Mexican citizen who could do the job, and unless you have some highly specialized job skills, that may not be easy. Thousands of workers have returned from the United States. Many of them speak English and Spanish fluently. They are even having trouble finding work. I'm not sure who thought that speaking English was any kind of magic carpet, but is just isn't true. You could check with the resorts but the pay is not great. The real estate market is very slow, because folks in the states can't sell their houses to buy that retirement or vacation home. You can check CraigsList Puerto Vallarta and get an idea of what might be available. http://pv.en.craigslist.com.mx/
3 :
Try the big hotels they use English speakers alot.
4 :
In many hotels and restaurants hire americans as activities team, hostess, chefs, public relations etc. but the salaries are not very good as the comissionist like timeshare sales person. Right now isn´t easy at all.

How much money should I bring to Mexico for vacation?

How much money should I bring to Mexico for vacation?
I am going to a small village in Mexico called Sayulita in December. We are renting a house and will be making our own food half the time and going out to eat the other half. We won't be doing a lot of paid activities (horseback riding, etc.) ..we're mainly going to explore on our own. However we will be eating/drinking a lot and will be buying lots of souvenirs. How much money (American) should we each bring to live comfortably for 8 days? Thanks

Hi, That village is near Puerto Vallarta, in Riviera Nayarit i think. You won't need a lot of cash, if you want to eat seafood with some beer, it won't cost you more than $30, and you will eat good food and drink a lot of coronas. In a fancy restaurant a corona will cost you no more than $2, a cocktail maybe $5. About the souvenirs, i dont know what you have in mind, some clothing ? no more than $30 each, earring and necklaces? $20. Good luck!!!

When I went to Telchac in Yucatan for two weeks I only tool 200 dollars in American money and it lasted me the whole time because I lived off of food they sold in the parks which i only paid about ten to twenty pesos for which is 1 to 2 dollars our money and all the chips and stuff you can buy at the grocery store start off a a peso which is about ten cents here. also went to Xcaret which was almost like a theme park there and I was able to pay for th eentrance and I broght back many souvenirs from Cancun too
3 :
Not sure if there is a bank or cash machine in Sayulita .... but bring your ATM card because dollars are very hard to spend or change to pesos. Tell your bank you'll be in Mexico. If they do take your dollars they'll give you a terrible exchange rate Here's a Sayulita message board http://sayulita-mexico.com/

What are the opportunities for a recent Information Systems college graduate in Mexico?

What are the opportunities for a recent Information Systems college graduate in Mexico?
fluent in Spanish How hard would it be to get an IT job in mexico could I be a freelance programmer over the internet and make enough money to live in Mexico Are there any other Central/South American countries where this would be easier?

We have a lot of people graduating with that degree here. Your best bet would be to try and get work with an international corporation. There's not much money for freelance programmers in Mexico. I would recommend another country. Recent Mexican university graduates are looking for work and to make their lives outside Mexico because they see no future for anyone here except corrupt politicians and drug lords.

Should I study something that’s going to make me money, or something I like?

Should I study something that’s going to make me money, or something I like?
I’m Mexican, I live in the border-town of Reynosa; we have almost 300 factories here. I work as a teacher. I have A LOT of contacts in these factories. I used to teach English, but stopped because a lot of people do it, and I wanted to stand out. I make a living teaching Spanish to Americans working in these factories. I teach French to people working in some of the French owned factories. And I teach Japanese to people working in the many Japanese owned factories. Reynosa has a lot of Korean factories, so I should learn Korean, so I can teach it later on. The thing is I don’t really like the language. I would like to learn Mandarin (Chinese;) I think it’s a beautiful language, but I know Mexico is never going to allow China to open up factories in Mexico because of they are a big competition to us. So I would never make any money out of it. I learned to read and write Greek and Hebrew, and although I like the languages, I haven’t made money out of them. What language should I learn?

If you're only going to work in communications, then choose the one that pays the most. You can always spend your creative time learning the languages that won't pay as much--if at all.
2 :
Have you thought about learning Vietnamese? That could be an option for you but don't learn something that you don't want to. Teaching is supposed to be fun not something that you feel is tedious.
3 :
Do you make enough money right now to live well? If yes, just learn the language you feel like learning, not the one you think is useful. It will become of some use at some point in your life. To judge whether you make enough money to live well, try to think if you meet your needs, if you can sometimes help people that matter to you, if you can put a little money aside. That's all. Don't go by people's impressions...
4 :
I think you are brilliant and I am really jealous of you, I can only speak one other language. You should learn the beautiful language of mandarin, you already know enough languages to get you by in your work, so do something you will enjoy! In England we have saying "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy". Good Luck!!
5 :
Hai Analyse the market position. You have to make practice tough language.Competition always less.
6 :
You sound very talented. Isn't there an intensively linguistic job in a field that you can be optimized and hired in (i.e. like translating and transcription services, business-political translator, etc.) at your current location?? Are you financially sound as you are? Then choose whatever language you like. But if you feel like you need to make more money then I suggest you choose the field/language that may make the most money out of your talents at your local area (hence, Korean). Make sure you make contacts along the way with your pupils. They sound like working class people who could inadvertently help you to open job opportunities at other places. You maybe their foreign investment. Make sure you can find something catered to your talents on the internet. There's this growing field of one on one live chat sessions for speakers beginning a new langauge with experienced speakers. You may even use it to learn Mandarin as well for yourself. Best of Luck.

How can a busy student earn some money?

How can a busy student earn some money?
lol I know how this sounds, but i'm busy with my studies! I'm a senior in high school and do not have a time for a coventional job. this is problematic, as I am finicailly restrained from buying and doing things, like getting the occasional new CD and going on mission trips to Mexico. Addationally, I need to put money away for college and retirement. Do you have any idea on how i might be able to either make time for a coventional job or make money in some other way that doesn't require too much time? phreaps you can point me towards some resources? Thanks for your help. thanks for all of you guys who have givin me advice so far, but for those of you who say i can make lots of money doing easy stuff on the internet, i'm not buying it. sorry. even if i did get paid, it doesn't sound like the work would be ethical, or even legal. it may be that your job is to give these types of answers of Y! Answers! so if there are any others like what i have described, dont bother to answer. and if you do anyway, then i'll REALLY know that you're being paid. D_W: i like your answer the most so far. it sounds the most ligitimate and believeable. Hunter_boy*s: you call that a third-level answer?

wait tables, wait tables, wait tables. It is the only job I can think of where, averaged over one weeks time, you can make $20-$30 an hour, only work 4 hr shifts (depending on the time the restaurant closes of course), meet tons of people, and get teh cash right away!! Serving tables put me through college and now that I have a degree I even contemplate going back every now and then!! lol. You can't beat the money and it really isn't THAT hard to do......it's more fun than difficult especially if you choose a restaurant with an atmosphere you like and fits your own personality (ex. bar if you like bands/music, fine dining if you like quite conversations etc.). You'll make $150 day if you can work a double on Saturdays. And the scheudle is usually flexible so you could do that......work 1 day a week :) good luck!

you are at high and already thinking about retirement that's strange dude!!! try out some Internet earning engines, but be care full a lot of them are scam

I don't know but, when you find out, do let me know. - I have enough room in my back yard for a tree, especially a money tree. Could someone be pulling your leg? There is an old saying that "money doesn't grow on trees". The implication that you can't grow money, you must work for it. An older implication is that trees have less economic value than crop producing farm land. I can remember hearing that money doesn't grow on trees from a young age. At about 3, we were passing "the yard with the strange tree" when I asked what type of tree it was. I was told it was a monkey tree and that they were rare in out area. Some how, I heard "money tree" and spent the next couple of years trying to see dollar bills hanging from it. Some where about age 5-6, I asked where the money hung, was it inside the cones? Needless to say, I came to learn that the tree was a monkey tree, was told that money doesn't grow on trees, and then listened to a lecture about how it takes work to make money. Still, money is made from paper which is sourced to plant fiber. I know that they are using a couple of different fibers to make the paper that money is made from. But, I don't know which or what type. This is probably one of the secrets about money and the production of money.

I do not know if you find out let the rest of us know. It would be greatly appreciated!
