can l make money selling cars in Illinois that l buy in New Mexico?
I want to go down south and find a car that is not rusted out, and bring it up north and sell it for a profit. Is this a good idea?l have traveled around the states. What about buying a car in Mexico and driving it up here?

If you can buy it below to-days market price, and sell it soon, sure.

Doubtful that the price difference (if any) will make up for the cost of moving the car between states.

Bad idea. The cost of traveling to find and purchase thes cars and transporting the vehicles back up north will probably reduce your profits down to next to nothing. The only way it would be practical is if you bought a dozen (or more) cars at a time. That way you would reduce your expenses. Importing a car from Mexico is another situation completely and not one that you would want to get into.
