whats up with slaughtering horses to make money for the state? And will us Americans start eating horses...I don't think so. they're thinking of that in ND. its just SICK! People need to stop breeding bad horses. Not that any are bad but just not breed because they can.

I think horse slaughter is sick and cruel. I hate going to horse auctions and see the meat men buy off every foal and horse that walks threw the door.

All right, all you bleeding hearts, what have you done to provide a place for excess horses? How many have you adopted? And why would you think nothing of eating beef or pork but go "oooooh" about horse? I don't eat horse either but it's a matter of taste. I much prefer beef. Or bison. Or kangaroo. Or . . . .

I used to work in a slaughter house. Believe me, if you've ever eaten a hotdog you've eaten horse meat and about 12 other animal species parts.

so what are people suppose to do with horses that are dangerous or that they can't afford to keep anymore? is it better to let them free and to starve to death? everyone against slaughter, do you have the money and the solution? whats worse is since they shut the slaughter houses in the united states, which were regulated by law to treat them humanely, now people send them to mexico. do you think they have the same laws and treatment in mexico that they do here? plus, in many other countries it is accepted to eat horse meat, just like beef or pork. horse meat is also cheaper to buy than beef as well. in this economy, people are more worried about feeding their families and happy just to eat. you are lucky your not starving or have the problems that other families do.

Horse slaughter should continue to be banned in American and haulted from exports. Horse slaughter is a market owned by a few foreigners that did NOT pay gross income Taxes nor did they respect laws as based on a 1949 Texas law that outlawed horse slaughter. They open up secretly from cattle to horses. Yes in the past horse slaughter was booming only because it was secretly done mixing in beef and feeding cats and dogs anything to make a buck. Once exposed most went out of business. Now when these few owned the market they had no competition so they would lie and do anything to promote there inhumane business. Most people that support horse slaughter are making money one way or another either by overbreeding to a few bottom feeders that arent educated enough to realize the problems they are creating. I can bet not one of these pro slaughter people even know what a horse rescue is or how they operate and they clearly dont donate to rescues. Horse slaughter actually promotes abuse and neglect and rewards irresponsible people for there crimes. You stop horse slaughter first then you fine and jail these abusers not reward them. Breeding continues to drop and horse prices become affordable. Its time for responsiblity not to slaughter your way out of an Oboligation. What next are we going to slaughter old folks because they are milking our government goodies because there arent enough people working because of the economy. Why should foreigner be allowed to profit when responsible Americans are hurting. It is not the fact that horses are being slaughtered for meat that should concern people it is HOW they are being slaughtered. If you have livestock then you sure as heck are going to have dead stock. Any animal has the right to a good life and a good death. What happens to the carcass after doesn't matter whether it is buried, burned or eaten. Not everyone is in a position to bury their horse in a hole in their garden and wild horses need to be managed. If I was in the US I would not be fighting to stop horse slaughter I would be fighting to get humane transport to closer abattoirs, to have each animal killed out of sight of others and the handling of them humane. In the UK it is very different with strict laws on travel, and the holding and killing (for all killing whether sheep, pig, horse or cow) vet has to be present to ensure that all is done correctly and humanely. This is how it should be in the USA.
