Why does Mexico have the second richest person when 100s of thousands of it's people leave?
Carlos Slim is now the second most richest person, a telecom and media magnate in Mexico. Yet 100,000 Mexicans leave that country annually and illegally into the US. It's unfathomable that one person could make so much money when his countrymen are so poor they risk their lives to escape across the border. Now he states he wants to donate millions to Bill Gates' charity?

Ever hear of a drug lord, or a slave trader?

Why do you criticize Carlos Slim. He sounds like a enterprising fine man to me. I've been to Mexico and I couldn't leave fast enough to suit me. It had nothing to do with Carlos.

Because that's what makes a third world country, all the wealth is in the hands of a few who rule by decree and appoint who will run for office for the poor people to elect. It's not that much different than here where those "entreprenuers" who do the best are involved in drug trafficking or the like under cover of some other business such as motels or pizzarias or something, and run local politics. And it's what the USA is being turned into, if that makes you feel better. That's why Bush is throwing the borders open, so people who accept this are willing to come here and be treated like slaves and show the rest of us how we are supposed to behave. Mexicans need to demand better of their government, and Americans need to demand better of ours.

Thank God I live in a third world country, it makes people more humble and generally speaking: human.
